Join bestselling Australian history author Adam Courtenay to learn how a motley crew of merchant seamen walked 600 miles to save 7000 gallons of rum.
In 1796, the Calcutta merchants Campbell & Clark dispatched a ship full of grog to the colony of New South Wales. When the ship went down north of Van Diemen’s Land Clark and sixteen other crew members were compelled to walk 6000 miles to Sydney to get help for the stranded crew and to retrieve the precious goods. Assisted by at least six Indigenous clans on his journey, Clark and his men were the first to traverse the eastern seaboard, and their findings were the catalyst for Australia’s first phase of exploration. But did the rum ever get to Sydney?
By the bestselling author of The Ship That Never Was and The Ghost and the Bounty Hunter, Three Sheets to the Wind is a rollicking true account of a little-known event that changed the course of Australian history. Adam’s books will be available for purchase at the event from The Book Connection.
